Gilberto is a better captain than Henry

It was not me the one to bring this discussion (Jon Brodkin, from Guardian Sport Blog among them), but I have to take part on that. Yes. Gilberto Silva can be a better captain for Arsenal than French-star-legend Thierry Henry.

I am not just talking about the results in last seven matches, when Arsenal were undefeated. Nor even the 5 goals in seven matches, a lot for a defensive midfielder who had scored 15 times in his previous 180 games.

But I have at least two reasons to be sure about that. The first one is all about Gilberto. He is a team player and more than that, he comes from behind, where he can see the game much better than an offensive player.

The second one is all about Henry. He doesn’t seem to be much a communicative player and also not a very good team player and you don’t have to pay to much attention to see the number 14 complaining about his team-mates in every other game. In this transition period of Arsenal, it seemed obvious to choose him as a captain, but this can also be bad even for the young players.

They can have a lot more support from a player like Gilberto, who had some bad and good moments at the club and is far from being a star. I don’t believe Henry will loose his armband. It doesn’t make any sense. But I think Gilberto Silva is better for the team and the captaincy made the Brazilian a more self-confident player for the team.

And Henry, anyway, he doesn’t really seems to care, does he?
